Coventry updates electric vehicle charging network

Electric vehicle charging infrastructure firm ChargePoint Services is working to upgrade EV charging points in Coventry city centre, as part of a project being carried out on behalf of Coventry city council.

The project includes the removal of seven existing chargers left over from the Plugged in Places legacy project, which are being replaced with the installation of seven new Twin Socket 7kW chargers connected to the GeniePoint Network.

The phased installation includes, two new chargers situated in Croft Road and Little Park Street, three chargers at the Memorial Park & Ride, all of which are now fully functional and available to use, and two additional chargers, the final destination is still to be confirmed.

Access

Electric vehicle Drivers can access the new chargers in Coventry via RFID card or smartphone.

Alex Bamberg, managing director of ChargePoint Services Ltd, said.  “The city of Coventry is geographically situated at the global centre of cutting-edge, automotive engineering technology.  Coventry city council is majorly supportive of clean vehicle technology and we are very pleased to be supporting their efforts to provide outstanding recharging facilities to drivers visiting the city centre.

“We look forward to the next phase of the project which will be to provide Rapid Charging facilities enabling even faster charging for drivers around Coventry city centre.”

ChargePoint Services also operates EV charging networks in Hamphsire and Cornwall, after having purchased energy firm SSE’s interest in both in September 2016.

Across the two areas of Hampshire and Cornwall, the company operates 23 tri header 50kW rapid chargers and 28 twin socket fast chargers.
