LEVC to trial electric van in 2019

LEVC — the company behind the range extended electric taxi — is to trial a new electric van in the capital in London from 2019, the company has announced.

In a statement this week, LEVC, which has a manufacturing facility near Coventry, said it is currently in discussion with a number of major public-sector fleets about joining the trials of prototype vehicles including Metropolitan Police Service and the London Fire Brigade.

Like the taxi, the van will combine a fully electric powertrain with an economical petrol range-extender.

LEVC expects that the vehicle — for its size — will deliver a competitive total cost of ownership.

The first of LEVC TX eCity taxis entered service in London early in 2019. The vehicle is powered by a battery electric powertrain with a 1.3 litre petrol engine, made by Volvo. The technology allows for a range of over 400 miles including over 70 miles range with zero emissions.
