Air Quality Consultant – Reading

We are currently seeking an Air Quality Consultant to join our air quality team in the UK. Working in the Reading Office (Aldermaston), the successful candidate will have an excellent opportunity to contribute to a variety of air quality assessments. Day-to-day responsibilities will include preparation of fee proposals for air quality assessments; completion of air quality assessments; dispersion modelling using ADMS Road, Breeze Roads, AERMOD and similar software packages; and writing client reports.

Candidates will have a relevant degree (e.g. Environmental Management and Environmental Science), along with membership of the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM) and Institute of Environmental Science (IES). Having one to two years’ of proven consultancy experience, candidates should also be able to demonstrate knowledge of methodologies for the assessment of roads, industry and dust emissions including air quality neutral assessments. A solid working knowledge of Breeze Roads and/or ADMS software is essential and knowledge of AERMOD software (or similar) is preferable.

The successful candidate should have good writing skills and the ability to work independently. A full driving license is essential.

Air Quality Consultant – Basingstoke

Due to a sustained high demand for our services, Hawkins Environmental are looking to recruit an Air Quality Consultant to carry out air quality assessments for planning applications, based in our new offices in central Basingstoke.

Hawkins Environmental is a small multi-disciplinary urban environmental consultancy specialising in noise/vibration, daylight/sunlight and air quality/odour/dust assessments for planning applications. With a varied portfolio of returning clients, our team works on a wide range of projects across the country. Recent projects include sports stadiums, residential developments, supermarkets, libraries, offices, care homes and even a zoo!

 Successful applicants would expect their work at Hawkins Environmental to include:

  • Air quality assessments for residential developments;
  • Air quality impact assessments of the traffic impacts of proposed developments;
  • Assessment of combustion plant (CHP, Biomass etc.);
  • Odour assessments;
  • Dispersion modelling;
  • Dust monitoring;
  • NO2 diffusion tube surveys;
  • Air quality neutral assessments;
  • Construction dust risk assessments;
  • Report writing;
  • Preparation of Environmental Statement chapters.

We are looking for an enthusiastic graduate, with either a BSc or MSc in a relevant discipline, with up to four years of relevant experience and a full UK driving licence. You must have excellent written and oral communication skills, with excellent numerical skills and be competent at using Microsoft Excel and Word. In addition, knowledge of air quality legislation and the planning and EIA process, as well as experience of air quality dispersion modelling software (ADMS or Breeze) would put applicants at a distinct advantage. Applicants showing a willingness and interest in also conducting noise and vibration assessments would also be considered favourably.  This position would suit recent graduates, looking to enter the field of environmental consultancy and specifically air quality, or those in the early years of their careers.

Job Title: Air Quality Projects Officer
Fixed term – 1 year
 Full time (37 hours per week)
Salary: £31,540 per annum

The Mid Kent Environmental Health partnership covers Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone and Swale Borough Councils.

We are looking for a dynamic and forward thinking person with experience of Local Authority Air Quality Management (LAQM) to join the Environmental Protection Team. The successful candidate will be based in our office in Sittingbourne working specifically on projects to improve air quality in the five Air Quality Management Areas to reduce exceedances in Nitrogen Dioxide from vehicles (HGVs).

The role will cover a diverse range of air quality work including engagement with community groups, partner agencies, businesses, as well as key services within Swale to deliver air quality measures currently being revised in the Strategic Air Quality Action Plan 2018 – 2022.

You will need to have a sound understanding of air quality, principles of modelling and an ability to interpret the significance of air quality data as well as a passion for communicating complex issues clearly to a wide range of people.

You will also need to have experience of delivering air quality projects, ideally in a Local Authority environment, be experienced in writing and interpreting air quality reports and in seeking funding and involvement with air quality-related initiatives. You will be a strong team player with a positive outlook and be able to work on your own initiative.
